Description

In this lesson we’ll learn some power chords rooted on the E string.

Let’s start with an A5 chord. Notice that power chords are named for the root note and the number 5 which indicates an interval of a 5th . For all power chords rooted on the E string the 5th is one string higher and 2 frets higher. So we can count on always using this shape.

Let’s make a power chord that uses these chords to use as the intro and outro of our practice tune.

Go slowly at first and concentrate on keeping the chord shape consistent, but try to stay relaxed. It’s easy to get too tense trying to hold this shape and move it around. You also want to use the lower part of your index finger to mute the upper strings from ringing Also notice that the picking motion is very minimal, just enough to strike 2 strings while avoiding the others.
